"Ye Olde Swimming Hole"

Date: 1912

Dimensions: 13.5" x 9.5"

Media: Watercolor on paper

Location: Private collection

Notes:

This painting was labeled “Ye Olde Swimming Hole” by Hough, although it is framed without the title visible.

Long after the Canal was discontinued, Hough’s nephew Bob Mott could point to the spot on the Canal where local children used to swim. The site, near a bend in the Canal, was near one of the Butterworth farms on the Berkshire Valley Rd.
