Notes

Cranberry Lake was a popular amusement and recreation area near the northern end of Lake Hopatcong. The Morris Canal and Banking Company obtained rights to and expanded an existing pond into a 200-acre lake. It was intended as a feeder for Lake Hopatcong and thus the Morris Canal in times of drought. Cranberry Lake became a popular recreational area in the later 19th and early 20th century, attractive to painters such as Hough.
