Lock on the Morris Canal

Notes:

This painting was owned by Hough’s nephew Robert (Bob) Mott who lived in Kenvil. Mr. Mott tried in later years to find the lock but was not able to do so. If anyone can identify it, please let us know!

Bob Mott talked of Sunday School outings taken on the Canal with the Succasunna Presbyterian Church. The canal boats left from Ledgewood and went to Lake Hopatcong where they would have their picnic.

Mr. Mott also remembered the Canal boats tied up and delivering coal and building supplies at the Kenvil Lumber Co. owned by his father Joseph Mott. The lumber company was located on what is now Rt. #46, Kenvil near the Kenvil post office.
